Rooms/The Yippy Ky Yo Ky Yay Rodeo Suite...

The Rodeo Room, Coral Sands Inn, Palm Springs, CaliforniaThe Rodeo Room, Coral Sands Inn, Palm Springs, California

This may be the sweetest room we've got if you're the kind who appreciates dust-covered blue jeans low on a pair of scuffed cowboy boots and a vintage H Bar C western shirt with mother-of pearl buttons and rope braid piping. Throw in a Lone Star long neck on a hot day and you know what I'm talkin' about. If you tear up at the sight of a battered pickup shooting rooster tails of ochre dust into a blazing blue afternoon, if you like women with big hair and men with big cars, this is your room.

Let's start with the Rodeo Banner over the King Bed. The banner called cow pokes to Killeen, Texas, where they rode, roped, and tied by day. At night, they flirted, drank beer, and got up for a line dance or two. The room features pennants from world champion rodeos along with numerous mementoes of a romantic old west. Check out the western photo shade lamps and the original wagon wheel Hollywood Cowboy furnishings. These are mint vintage pieces lovingly collected over a lifetime.

The Davy Crockett lamp in the vanity area is one of a kind now but in the 50s thousands of boys and girls did their homework and read the Big Little Books under its soothings glow, dreaming of Roy, Gene, Hopalong, Annie, Dale and Polly. (Ruby had her very own faux white ermine Polly Crockett hat… duplicating the Davy Crockett Coon hat but all white with Polly's picture on the roof of the hat.) By the way… you will love the wagon wheel chandelier, too, with its palomino heads and horseshoes in glass globes.

Whaddaya say, partner? Can I rope this room for ya?
